Current Courses

The right-hand navigation panel links to three current syllabi and many past exams, usually with keys, for Administrative Process and Fundamentals of Intellectual Property (IP). It also links to curricular advice that supplements what is otherwise available to Pierce Law students.

Those with little prior exposure to intellectual property may find Professor Field's survey article, The Practical and Legal Fundamentals of IP, useful.

Professor Field has taught both Administrative Process (or Law) and Fundamentals of IP, the latter under various names, nearly every year since 1970, when he began teaching. Those courses have often been taught twice yearly.

Both Administrative Process and Fundamentals of IP use Professor Field's casebooks. Those books are revised at least annually. The Administrative Process book features cases involving the Patent and Trademark Office and the Copyright Office -- many discovered by students in research seminars that were offered for several years.

Copyright law is a new course (2008) although the subject matter has always been an important component of Fundamentals of IP.

Other course he has taught for more than three years include Antitrust, Business Associations, IP at Common Law [based on the Restatement (3d) of Unfair Competition], IP Moot Court [1992-99 problems are available upon request], IP Research Colloquia, Labor Law [based on the National Labor Relations Act], Products Liability [and product regulation by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Food and Drug Administration], Property [real and personal], Science, technology and legal process [various course titles and foci], and Trademarks [and related deceptive acts and practices, including those regulated by the Federal Trade Commission].

Professor Field is the author of Arbitration Exercises, available through the Center for Computer Assisted Instruction. He also founded the Pierce Law Amicus Clinic and directed it for several years.
