Academics at Pierce Law

Shaping Your Education Through Concentrations

Pierce Law integrates traditional courses with the practical skills necessary for practicing law in a rich and profound way. We take you beyond the traditional course list with increasingly responsible, complex and professional work available through externships, clinics, independent studies and research. Juris Doctor students also have the opportunity to participate in Appellate Moot Court and Trial Moot Court competitions as well as edit and write for several publications, including Pierce Law Review. As a result, students gain both a thorough academic grounding and an opportunity to develop and actually use hands-on-skills.

By second semester in the first year, Pierce Law students can begin shaping their future by selecting electives in particular concentrations such as social justice, business and e-Commerce, family, patent, trademarks and copyrights, and international law.

In addition to the JD, Pierce Law also offers freestanding graduate degrees and joint JD/LLM degrees in three areas: Intellectual Property, Commerce and Technology, and International Criminal Law and Justice.

Globally recognized Intellectual Property studies include a Master of Laws (LLM), a Master degree and  six-month Diploma program in Intellectual Property.  These programs allow students and faculty to work with intellectual property practitioners and organizations around the world, ensuring that Pierce Law's courses are cutting edge.  Intellectual Property summer institutes are held on campuses in Concord, NH and Beijing, China.

In addition, Pierce Law offers Master of Law (LLM) and Master degrees in Commerce and Technology and is one of few institutions to focus on e-Law.  A summer program in Cork, Ireland offers international insight.

Pierce Law's newest graduate program is in International Criminal Law and Justice. The Master of Law (LLM) and Master degrees can be molded to the student's area of interest with broad offerings in criminal and social justice, commerce, and intellectual property. A summer seminar in Washington, D.C. introduces students to internationally-renowned practitioners in the field.

Pierce Law consistently updates the technology of its library, classrooms and courtroom,  preparing students to practice in today's high-tech environment.
